Dairy Technology

Dairy Technology

Milk being a perishable product, its procurement, processing, storage, transportation and distribution have to be done hygieni-cally and without delay. Thus good coordination between livestock owners, chilling units, pasteurising units and distribution networks is necessary.

The Profession
The technical and quality control aspects of the processing plants for milk and milk products is the concern of the dairy technologist. The scientific study of the physiology of lactation and breeding of cattle to improve dairy breeds is covered by scientists. Those interested in the processed foods market can research new methods of processing dairy products in order to enhance the marketability of dairy foods.

Job Market:
Employment opportunities exist in dairies, cooperatives, government and private research departments, teaching
etc.

Career Prospects
The White Revolution has achieved considerable success in
its objectives of popularising and promoting dairy farming in the
country. The entry of specialists in this sector has given an added
fillip to the industry. Many multinational companies are also
evincing interest in this sector and all this indicates a prospective
growth in this field.
